| The example of
New Testament Christians meeting in homes to
pray, worship and learn God’s Word is a vital
part of the church. When the apostle Peter was
miraculously released from prison, the Bible
says he went to the house of Mary where “many
were gathered together and were praying” ( Acts
12:12 ). Other home fellowships are mentioned in
Scripture such as the house of Lydia ( Acts
16:40 ), the house of Jason ( Acts 17:5-6 ), the
house of Tituis Justus ( Acts 18:7 ). Scripture
states that the apostle Paul taught from “house
to house” ( Acts 20:20 ). These and other
examples document how small home fellowships
helped strengthen the body of Christ as a whole
and also helped spread the borders of God’s
kingdom.
